Newcastle United Transfers: Livramento Links, Tonali Talk and a Potential Busy Summer

By Katerina K

Transfer Noise Is Growing Around Newcastle

As the season moves towards its final stretch, transfer speculation around Newcastle United is beginning to intensify. Several high-profile names have already been linked with possible departures, while reports suggest the club could bring in as many as six to eight players this summer.

Naturally, supporters are trying to make sense of what a potentially busy window might actually look like.

One of the most discussed situations involves Tino Livramento. The young right-back has been linked with Manchester City, particularly as his contract negotiations appear likely to be addressed later in the season. With two years remaining on his deal this summer, Newcastle would still be in a strong negotiating position.

Craig Hope has suggested that the situation is one to watch and that a move could eventually materialise. At the same time, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said earlier this week that there are currently no fresh talks involving Livramento and nothing agreed regarding a move.

For now, the situation remains speculation rather than a concrete development.

It is also worth remembering Newcastle’s original investment. The club signed Livramento from Southampton in 2023 for around £32 million, potentially rising to £40 million with add-ons. Any serious approach would therefore need to reflect both that fee and the player’s long-term potential.

Tonali and the Wider Exit Rumours

Sandro Tonali has also appeared in recent speculation, with several major European clubs reportedly monitoring his situation. That would be surprising given the length of his contract. During the period of his suspension, Tonali signed a new deal that runs until 2029, with the club holding an option to extend it until 2030. Any move would almost certainly require a significant transfer fee, so for now talk of a departure remains firmly in the rumour category.

Tonali is not the only Newcastle player attracting attention. Bruno Guimarães continues to draw interest from top clubs, while players such as Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade have been mentioned in connection with potential moves to St James’ Park.

At this stage of the season, speculation of this kind is hardly unusual for a club with Newcastle’s ambition.

A Summer of Change But How Much?

Reports suggesting Newcastle could recruit six to eight players naturally create the impression of a major rebuild. There are reasons to approach those claims with some caution.

Even if European qualification proves difficult this season due to inconsistency, it would still be surprising to see wholesale changes in key areas of the squad.

From Eddie Howe’s perspective, squad balance matters. If both Livramento and Kieran Trippier were to leave in the same window, Newcastle would suddenly need to replace two experienced right-backs at once. Anyone who follows the Premier League knows that new signings often need time to settle. Taking that kind of risk in one position would be a bold decision.

Rumours Will Continue But Perspective Matters

As the summer window approaches, more names will inevitably be linked with Newcastle. That is simply the nature of the transfer industry.

Where there is smoke, there is often some fire, and Newcastle will almost certainly strengthen the squad this summer. But the volume of speculation rarely reflects the reality of how many deals actually happen.

For supporters, the sensible approach may be to remain calm and measured. Plenty of names will be mentioned between now and the opening of the window, but the final picture is usually far less dramatic than the rumour mill suggests.
