Newcastle United were on the receiving end of a defeat in a Premier League classic at St James’ Park against Everton.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 19th minute when James Garner played an unreal ball into the box towards Jarrad Branthwaite, whose header directed the ball into the back of the net.
Jacob Ramsey levelled things up in the 32nd minute - his fabulous strike went into the top-left corner of the goal.
Everton regained their lead in no time - In the 34th minute, Dwight McNeil had a shot at Nick Pope, who parried it out to Beto, and the striker smashed it past Pope.
After all the possession Newcastle had enjoyed, they found their equaliser late on in the 82nd minute when Joelinton’s cross found Jacob Murphy, and his volleyed effort took a deflection and went past Jordan Pickford.
Winner
However, Everton responded virtually from kick-off after Newcastle’s goal -The ball found Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who squared it to Thierno Barry, and he tapped it into an empty net.
Newcastle almost equalised in the fourth minute of added time when Sandro Tonali’s incredible strike was met by an equally impressive save from Pickford, who deflected it onto the crossbar.
Anthony Gordon started against his former club as Newcastle made six changes to face 'The Toffees'. Pope, Malick Thiaw, Lewis Hall, Ramsey and Anthony Elanga were also recalled following 'The Magpies’ 3–2 win against Qarabag earlier that week in the Champions League.
McNeil made his first appearance since a deadline-day move to Crystal Palace collapsed, as Everton made four changes for the trip to Tyneside. Jake O’Brien, Vitaliy Mykolenko and Beto also returned to the side following Monday’s defeat to Manchester United at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
'Scrambled clear'
60' - Hall was found high on the left by Joelinton, and the wing-back crossed well before Branthwaite nodded behind. The subsequent corner was cleared, with the next cross causing trouble. Pickford parried a Gordon shot, and it had to be scrambled clear - it was nearly a Newcastle leveller.
65'- Beto hit the bar. The forward went through but perhaps had too much time to pick his spot and slammed the ball against the woodwork.
